Development Feature: Eastwood Grocery Building

In 2022, Romulus began a partnership with Cisneros Design Studio to acquire and begin a landmark renovation of the historic Eastwood Grocery building in the heart of Houston’s Eastwood neighborhood . Located at 4109 McKinney, plans for the project include reopening the 3,500 SF building’s ground floor as a grocery and restaurant space, with an upstairs of boutique offices.

The historic structure, originally built by an Italian immigrant and grocer named LM Greco, opened as the Eastwood Community Market in 1922 during a formative period in Houston’s history. When originally built, the two-story stucco building served as the primary food retailer in newly developed Eastwood, a planned community conceived by William Wilson following his successful development of the Woodland Heights. Eastwood has seen a revitalization in recent years as young couples and working professionals have flocked to the area for its historic homes, oak tree-lined streets, and transit connectivity to downtown. Today, Eastwood contains the largest intact collection of craftsman, arts & crafts, and mission-style homes in Houston.

Additional plans for the Eastwood Grocery site include the installation of a 1950’s Southern Pacific caboose, currently being marketed to coffee and fast casual tenants. Development of the Eastwood Grocery Site will be completed in Fall 2023.
